The punch is the needle or tool that does the incision around the hair follicles to make it extractable by spinning around the hair follicle. Both FUE and DHI techniques involve using punches ranging in diameter from 0.6 to 1.2mm, but normally being between 0.7 and 1.0mm. With classical hair transplant, the punch is attached to a micro-motorised device, whereas in Manual Hair Transplant relies on the manual force of the practitioner. That’s why some refer to the hair transplant procedures by the punch used in them i.e., Manual Punch Hair Transplant for Manual Hair Transplant.
An advantage of Manual Hair Transplant over Motorised Hair Transplant is that it allows for a greater level of control over the extraction process, and what some practitioners have described as greater ‘feedback’, in the sense that Manual Hair Transplant gives practitioners a greater ‘feel’ for depth. An important consideration in any hair transplant is avoiding graft transaction, which is to say accidentally cutting the part of the hair that lies under the skin.

FUT involves extracting a strip of hair-bearing tissue from the patient’s donor area before subdividing this into individual grafts that are implanted into the patient’s recipient area.
The scalp is then closed using stitches that are removed in the days following the operation. The extraction of a complete strip of tissue constitutes the main difference between the FUT method and the FUE and DHI methods, both of which involve the individual harvesting of donor grafts.
Compared with these other, more modern, transplant techniques, FUT involves a more intensive operation which requires a higher level of intervention and has a longer postoperative recovery period. It is also pricier than other treatment methods.
